Great Taste Awards 2 Gold Stars for Naval Bertha
Bertha’s Revenge Navy Strength picked up 2 Gold Stars at the Great Taste Awards 2021. This is the highest score Ballyvolane House Spirits Company has achieved for their gin so far.
Great Taste is the largest and most trusted accreditation scheme for fine food and drink. It supports, promotes and mentors artisan food producers large and small, who want to supply the UK independent retail sector and overseas stores selling fine food.
Great Taste offers a unique benchmarking and product evaluation service leading to an independent accreditation that encourages confidence and commercial success for small business, generating greater awareness for products locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
Since 1994, more than 130,000 products have been put through this robust judging process. Each one is fastidiously blind-tasted by selected chefs, buyers, fine food retailers, restaurateurs, food critics and writers over 70 judging days.
We are delighted with this award.

Beverage Testing Institute Silver Award 2021 for Bertha’s Revenge Gin
We are delighted to share the news that Bertha’s Revenge Gin was awarded a Silver Medal from the Beverage Testing Institute (BTI).
BTI was founded in 1981 as the first international wine competition in the United States, adding beer, spirits, cider, sake, mead and more to the repertoire in 1994. Using industry-leading methodology co-developed with Cornell University and a one-of-a-kind approach to trade focus groups and sensory panelist recruitment, BTI’s evaluations are so much more than a competition. Beverage Testing Institute has become the most comprehensive and reliable source for alcohol beverage product testing and professional reviews in the world.

John and Sally McKenna’s Guides
We are proud and delighted to have been awarded the The McKennas’ Guide Best in Ireland 2021 plaque. The McKenna’s plaque is one of the most respected badge of merit in Irish contemporary food and hospitality. John and Sally have championed the best of Irish food and hospitality to their wide audience for over thirty years and have published numerous books. The McKennas’ books bring you straight to the heart and soul of Ireland, with the latest book ‘MILK’ celebrating Ireland’s culinary treasure, out now. We have a copy and it’s fantastic. Milk is close to our hearts as we operated a diary farm here at Ballyvolane House in the 1980’s and we are now distilling Berthas’ Revenge Gin from milk whey in one of the old cow sheds in the farm yard. Ballyvolane also translates from Gaelic as “the place of springing heifers”.
