Wedding Ceremonies

Something Different

Ballyvolane House has an abundance of enchanting places in which to have a ceremony or blessing; inside the house or in the great outdoors or in the rustic hay barn. In the past, we have had blessings in the gardens, in the woods, in the walled garden and by the lakes.

Civil Marriages

Civil ceremonies in the hay shed

Civil Marriages are subject to approval by the HSE (Health Service Executive), which is the government authority responsible for approving venues suitable for Civil Marriages. In each case, the couple getting married must apply directly to the Cork Civil Registration Office (Adelaide Court, Adelaide Street, Cork. Tel: 021 4275126).

For more details on civil marriage ceremonies in Ireland, visit the Citizen’s Information website here and the General Register Office website here. Ballyvolane House has been given consent in the past for Civil Marriages.

Humanist or other types of ceremonies and blessings can be held outside. If you are interested in Humanist ceremonies, please contact the Ceremonies co-ordinator: https://www.humanism.ie

Woodland wedding ceremonies

An outdoor wedding ceremony or blessing is a lovely option at Ballyvolane House. Our prices vary according to size and would include the following:

  • Decorative antique chairs for the bride and groom
  • Vintage Mess chairs for the wedding guests
  • Altar table
  • Coir matting for the aisle
  • Storm lanterns hanging from the trees
  • Umbrellas
  • Use of our old army Landrover Lightweight
  • Party marquees are available for hire specifically for ceremonies and blessings

Winter wedding ceremonies at Lismore Castle

We have teamed up with our friends at Lismore Castle to accommodate more wedding ceremony options during the winter months. Ceremonies in the great outdoors are not always possible during the winter and we are delighted to offer wedding couples a truly stunning alternative location for their wedding ceremony.

The atmospheric Pugin Room at Lismore Castle (Pugin designed the Houses of Parliament in Westminster) is available exclusively to couples having their wedding at Ballyvolane House. The Wedding Ceremony would be held in the Pugin Room and following the ceremony (and some photos) the wedding party would head back to Ballyvolane for the wedding reception; drinks and canapés in the house (or gardens), dinner in the vintage marquee, dancing and party in the barn. Ballyvolane House is only 25 minutes from Lismore Castle by car.
