Navarra Wine Dinner with Ernie Whalley
Viva San Fermín! Navarra wines are celebrated at Ballyvolane House and The Legal Eagle with wine dinners showcasing the finest bodegas across the Navarra region.
5 Course Tasting Menu with matching wines
Date: Tuesday, July 24th @ 7pm
Location: The dining terrace at Ballyvolane House
For those not following the parade of gigantes y cabezudos through the streets of Pamplona or running with the bulls at San Fermín this July, Wines from Spain partners with Ballyvolane House and with The Legal Eagle to bring the spirit of San Fermín alive in the Cork countryside and the heart of Dublin city, respectively.
Located in northern Spain, close to the Pyrenees, wine has been produced in the unique wine region of Navarra since Roman times. Stretching 100 kilometres from the valleys of Pamplona to the plains of the Ebro river, the diversity of the climate and landscape of the DO help to produce a variety of diverse and different styles of wine.
Wines from Spain is delighted to host these two showcase dinners and has worked carefully with the finest bodegas across the Navarra region to choose stand-out wines to complement the dinner to perfection. Introduced by experts, guests will also have tasting notes for each wine that is poured, making the evening both informative and delicious in equal measure!
The Navarra dinner to celebrate San Fermín in Ballyvolane House is on Tuesday 24th July, and wines will be introduced by Ernie Whalley, renowned restaurant critic and wine writer. Beginning at 7 p.m., the 5-course tasting menu with matching wines will be held on long tables in Ballyvolane’s gorgeous gardens, if the weather is still as glorious as it is now – appropriately Spanish weather! If not, the Navarra dinner will be served on the dining terrace in the barn.
The Ballyvolane House Navarra wine dinner with Wines from Spain will be showcasing a superb selection of wines from DO Navarra, including Chivite Colección 125 Chardonnay 2015, an elegantly intense and full-bodied Chardonnay with tones of hazelnuts, almonds, sweet spices, citrus fruits, apricots, fragrant herbs and certain creamy memories from the barrel. Other wines include Ochoa Calendas Blanco with the freshness and vivacity of Viura, structure from Chardonnay and fantastic floral aromas from a small percentage of Muscatel, and the Señorío de Sarría, Crianza 2014 from Bodega de Sarría. From a large and beautiful estate in the hills above Puenta la Reina near Pamplona, their Crianza, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, bursts with red fruit, wonderful vanilla notes from ageing in American oak, and toasty balsamic nuances.
Tickets to the Navarra dinner at Ballyvolane House are €65 per person to include the 5-course dinner and all wines, with a special offer to include overnight accommodation and breakfast for both the house and the comfortably bohemian and chic glamping in Ballyvolane’s lush gardens.
There may be no bullfights in Ballyvolane House or fireworks in The Legal Eagle but there will certainly be a fiesta of flavours and splendid wines from DO Navarra to celebrate San Fermín in style this July.
Pre booking is required and places can be booked directly with each venue.
