Tree planting at Ballyvolane House
We planted 300 trees in recent weeks at Ballyvolane House. The trees were donated by ‘Trees on the Land’, a charity and not-for-profit project working to establish young native trees across the 32 counties of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
We planted a mix of oak, Scots Pine, alder, birch, hawthorn and apple.
Massive thanks to Trees on the Land and also to the ‘dream team’ of tree-planters, Maia, Oscar, Jamie, Fleur and Dumpling (the terrier).
Trees on the Land run an annual tree planting event with trees being distributed and planted between December and March each year. They provide simple schemes for landowners to access quality native tree mixes each season. They work with farmers, smallholders, community groups, councils, schools, colleges, sports clubs and many other landowners to coordinate sites to accommodate trees. Their vision is to establish tree cover and woodland in rural and urban areas that will grow for many years and provide valuable resources, beneficial ecosystem services and a lasting legacy for future generations. They plant small woodlands, orchards, hedgerows, shelterbelts, coppice, wood-pasture, agroforestry, individual trees, rows and avenues of trees, landscape and amenity trees, reforestation sites and larger woodlands. They have planted more than a million trees at several thousand sites since 2013.

The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago.
The second best time is now.
